华师一附中留学实验班高一（2）班王宇轩同学于今年寒假（2012年元月至2月）期间，成功申请赴美国芝加哥大学参加模拟联合国大会。他在参会期间，表现突出，获益良多。该生进校以来，一直以美国名校为目标，努力学习，是班级的学习委员，也是同学们效仿的好榜样。以下是他的参会感想，和同学们共勉。

Progress   in  the  Model   United    Nations

    This winter I participated in the model United Nation of university of Chicago, USA. It is really a memorable and educational experience.   

    First, I’d like to introduce the process of the MUNUC (Model United Nation Of University Of Chicago), the best MUN in the world. At the beginning, you can get the academic manual. You can find all the information of the conference in it.

    Second, you can attend the opening ceremony.

    Third, it’s the time to show yourself. The main meeting starts.

    The congress will last three days, and every day you have 8 hours’ meeting. The meeting always finishes at 11 o’ clock in the evening, and you perhaps should write the draft resolution or working paper all the night. The third day, you will have a dance party in the evening, if you can dance well, you will feel really excited and happy in it.

    Furthermore, I will share my experience and feeling with you.

First of all, I think you should understand that the meeting is held in the United States, so everyone you see is American; every voice you hear is in English. No one can understand Chinese. You may feel nervous and uncomfortable.

Whereas, if you can fit in this environment, and make efforts to communicate with the foreigners, your English, especially listening and speaking, will improve quickly. When I discussed with the American students and listened to them, or made a speech in my committee, my English became more skillful.

Simultaneously, you can cultivate your ability of speech during the MUN. On the first day of the conference, when I made a speech, I found most of the delegates never paid attention to me. Notwithstanding I tried many times, no one was impressed by my speech. But some other delegates always can attract a number of people to concentrate on them. Accordingly, I decided to observe their speech and at last, I found the difference, the method difference. The quality of speech depends on the method of speech, and my measure is poor and unattractive. Consequently, no one listened my speech was normal. In order to grab the attention of the delegates, I started to imitate the mechanism of those superb speakers, their intonation and behavior. On the second day I succeeded. When I utilized the method I learned from the other delegates in my speech, the American started listening to my speech and discussed my perspective during the discussion. Finally, I believe this activity makes me know more about the world and brings me to a totally new field.

In this MUN, I represented the Uruguay. The issues to which need us to find solutions are the trade of the drug and improving the working opportunity of women. In my past life, I didn’t know any information about the small country of the America states, and I never considered the problems about the drug and the gender equality. However, in this activity, I searched and investigated massive information about the Uruguay, drug and women, and at the meetings we discussed these problems just like the diplomats. It magnifies my horizons and helps me cultivate a complete and advanced world view.

    At last, I want to say if you want to enrich your life experience, joining the MUNUC is the most optimal choice to fill your emptiness, and remember this: Only in debating, can eloquence be cultivated; Only in probing, can vision be broadened.
