Black Star

When I was a toddler, my grandfather always went for a walk with me at night and helped me to count the stars in the sky. As time went on, stars turned out to be covered by the polluted air and soot. To pursue high speed, the only desperate result of mankind’s extreme behavior was to disorder the temperature, which killed stars eventually. Then the night sky became a piece of black cloth, without its original silhouette. As the stars disappeared, it seemed that mankind became more and more smallminded, especially the urban citizens who were even more testy and utilitarian in an incredible way.

While visiting the suburb, I spent an impressive night with the stars which I had been missing for a long time. Walking along a clear brook alone, there was a row of middleaged poplars standing in scented earth. Suddenly, I found out there was something gleaming in the brook. As soon as I realized that it was the reflection of stars, I looked up then and there: there were numerous stars twinkling in the sky.

Only when I looked at those twinkling stars could I realize the existence of the earth, could I make sure that the earth for which is so important for human beings to jostle is merely a tiny planet without the ability of luminescence. Looking at the stars, surprisingly, I realized that how tiny I had become. I was simply like an ant that could not even bear any vexation. Then looking at the tall poplars, the mystery and the diversification of the universe had amazed me so much.

I was aware that all those stars had already been seen by Li Bai and Su Shi. Also, I knew that some of the bright stars had existed since centuries of lightyears ago, and it will take thousands of years for man on the earth to sense its death.

At night, there was a tiny ant looking at the splendid stars, without any disquiet.

In daytime, I did my job smartly, free from all worries or anxieties.

As a fulfilled life, it is enough to have a brook, some fresh air, a row of trees, and the splendid stars.

Under the stars, no matter how great he is, man is no more than an ant with too much useless fame and money.
